Who is Jesus and What Are We To Do About It? (The I Am Statements)

Jesus told us who He is. But what did He say?

Doug covers the “I Am” statements in today’s message, which streamed live on our Facebook page.

You can also find it on our YouTube channel:

For quick reference, the I Am statements and their scripture reference are in the graphic below. Feel free to download. If you’re on a desktop (laptop same thing), you can right click to download. If you’re on a mobile phone, hold your thumb on the photo until download/share options appear.

The Lord’s View of Mothers

On Mother’s Day, some scriptures that reveal how the Lord made the nature of mothers and how He views their place in our world:

“A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.” — John 16:21

“As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.” – Isaiah 66:13

“Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” — Deuteronomy 5:16

“Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.” –- Proverbs 1:8-9

“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” — Proverbs 31:31

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” — Proverbs 31:28

If you can, read the wonderful story of the Shunammite mother in II Kings 4:8-37. It perfectly illustrates a faithful woman’s love and respect for the Lord and her recognition of Whom to trust in caring for her child.

These are just a handful of the scriptures which talk about mothers. We hope they encourage you.

And for those who feel humbled to the point you don’t ever think you will be the kind of mother described in some of these verses, take a listen to the hope that’s in the Lord. Doug discusses it here:

The Pain Before the Joy — Thoughts on Good Friday

As you go through your current trials, remember the Lord endured unimaginable hell on our behalf.  And through it all He kept His focus on the goal — the atonement for man’s sins and making a way for us to have a relationship with Him.  It makes this a Good Friday indeed and all the days ahead no matter what comes.

Jesus to His disciples:

32 “Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. 33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” — John 16:32-33

The Cross

If you grow up in America, you’re going to see a cross somewhere. Not too many years ago, most kids could tell you what it meant. That’s not as true today, but at Bible Club we are sharing the story of the Cross and what exactly it represents. We want kids to know what happened and what that means for the world and for them in particular.

We hope your child can join us today as we talk about this most pivotal event in history.

As usual we will serve dinner in the main church afterward. On the menu this week are chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese.

Hope to see you there.

If your child has never attended Bible Club, you can find info and register here. It only takes a few minutes. Promise.
