The Lord’s View of Mothers

On Mother’s Day, some scriptures that reveal how the Lord made the nature of mothers and how He views their place in our world:

“A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.” — John 16:21

“As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.” – Isaiah 66:13

“Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” — Deuteronomy 5:16

“Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.” –- Proverbs 1:8-9

“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” — Proverbs 31:31

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” — Proverbs 31:28

If you can, read the wonderful story of the Shunammite mother in II Kings 4:8-37. It perfectly illustrates a faithful woman’s love and respect for the Lord and her recognition of Whom to trust in caring for her child.

These are just a handful of the scriptures which talk about mothers. We hope they encourage you.

And for those who feel humbled to the point you don’t ever think you will be the kind of mother described in some of these verses, take a listen to the hope that’s in the Lord. Doug discusses it here:

National Day of Prayer

Before the day ends, a thank you to the Lord:

Thank You, O Lord that You are the mighty One
That You bless and keep us
That You know what we need before we know
That You bind up our wounds
That You cleanse us of our sins
That Your ear is attentive to our cries for help and peace and wisdom
That You are the perfect Father
Help us honor You

National Day of Prayer Today

On Friday, the President called for a National Day of Prayer today.

How wonderful that he has put the focus where it needs to be — on our Savior:

As your President, I ask you to pray for the health and well-being of your fellow Americans and to remember that no problem is too big for God to handle. We should all take to heart the holy words found in 1 Peter 5:7: ‘Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you.” Let us pray that all those affected by the virus will feel the presence of our Lord’s protection and love during this time. With God’s help, we will overcome this threat.'”

It is a fitting response from Christians to the possible devastation and the fear and panic that has ensued with regard to the Corona virus. The Lord intended His house to be a house of prayer:

Even those I will bring to My holy mountain
And make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable on My altar; For My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.”

Isaiah 56:7

Many blessings of peace and joy to you and yours as you seek the Lord today and bask in His goodness and ability to heal us not just physically but most important, spiritually.
